Adult Choirs
Our two classic worship service choirs are made up of adults who love music and
love lifting their voices in praise on Sunday mornings. In addition to the
usual anthems and other “service” music offerings each Sunday, these two groups
regularly perform music appropriate to the special seasons of the church year,
such as Easter and Christmas. There is an emphasis on worship appropriateness in everything presented, as the two ensembles function to both give musical offerings to God and facilitate worship in the congregation. There is no tryout required to be a part of either the 8:30 Service Choir or the 10:55 Chancel Choir—just a love of God, music, and a desire to be a part of a group of adults who love their Lord, each other, and giving God their best in music.
Does your work schedule prohibit your regular involvement in a church choir? Or perhaps you are just not able for other reasons to make a regular commitment to either of our service choirs but still want to sing. If so, then being a “Seasonal Singer” may be for you. You are cordially invited to get involved with our choral ministry at those “special” times during the church year, such as Christmas and Easter, when larger choral works are often presented.
We want you involved with our choral ministry! Come—get involved!
For more information contact Dr. Ron Hall at 623-6668, Ext. 118.
Adult Handbells
There are three opportunities for adults to ring in a handbell choir at First United Methodist Church of Hot Springs. Our Celebration and Jubilation handbell ringers regularly contribute to worship on Sunday mornings and at other times during the church year, especially during the Holy Week / Easter and Christmas seasons. Both groups have fun each year at handbell festival—a highlight of the year occurring each February. Celebration Bells currently meet at 11:00 a.m. on Mondays; Jubilation Bells meet at 5:15 pm on Wednesdays.
Beginning Adult Handbells meet every summer (at a time convenient for all). This group is for those interested in learning the simple art of handbell ringing. The music is simple and geared for learning.
Our church possesses two five-octave sets of Schulmerich bells, a set of Suzuki handchimes, and their own rehearsal room complete with piano for pieces arranged for instrumental accompaniment.
First United Methodist Church of Hot Springs, Arkansas also believes in providing children and youth with the opportunity to enjoy handbell ringing. A youth handbell ensemble is planned for the Fall of 2007. However, handbell ringing is already incorporated into our music ministry to children. More information about the children’s handbells can be found by
scrolling down the page.
For more information about our handbell ministry, or to join one of our groups, contact Dr. Ron Hall at 623-6668, Ext. 118.
Youth Praise Ensemble
This ensemble leads our youth worship on Sunday mornings and for UMYF on Sunday evenings as well. Modern praise and worship along with a lot of fun youth type of songs are the preference for this group. Drummers, guitarists, keyboardist and vocalist are always needed for this group. For more information contact Mike Lovelady at 623-6668, Ext. 107.
Children’s Choirs
Caroler’s Choir
Our Caroler’s Choir consists of children in grades K-2nd. The Caroler’s Choir meets each Wednesday after school. Pick up at your child’s school is available through our after school program on Wednesdays. The choir meets at 4:45 on the stage area of Cupp Hall in the Christian Life Center. Caroler’s Choir is led by our wonderful director Margaret Foster, affectionately known as “Miss Maggie”. The Caroler’s Choir sings once a month during one of our worship services and performs an end of the year concert, and during Christmas. For more information or to sign up your child for this choir contact Mike Lovelady at 623-6668, Ext 107.
Jr. Choir
Our Jr. Choir consists of children in grades 3rd-6th. The Jr. Choir meets each Wednesday as a part of our after school program. Pick up at your child’s school is available through our after school program on Wednesdays. The choir meets at 3:45 in the Adult Choir Room. Jr. Choir is led by Sherree O’Rorke, Cindy Smith and Amy Hill. The Jr. Choir sings once a month during one of our worship services and performs an end of the year concert, and during Christmas. For more information or to sign up your child for this choir contact Mike Lovelady at 623-6668, Ext 107.
Children’s Handbells
Currently as part of our Jr. Choir time, our children’s handbell ensemble—divided into beginning and advanced groups—provides an opportunity for kids to enjoy playing music, as well as singing it! Kids learn the basics of music reading quickly through their association with handbell playing and they enjoy being part of an instrumental ensemble, which enhances their appreciation of music. This group is led by Cindy Smith and assisted by Amy Hill. For more information about children’s handbell ringing contact either Dr. Ron Hall or Mike Lovelady at 623-6668, Exts. 118 or 107, respectively.
Contemporary Praise Band
If you enjoy some of the current praise and worship artists of today, such as Chris Tomlin, Charlie Hall, Paul Baloche and Darlene Zschech, then you’ll enjoy
The
ConneXion, our Contemporary Worship experience at 9:30 on Sunday mornings. The Praise Band for this service will be made up of keyboard, acoustic, electric and bass guitars, drums, percussion and vocals. Due to the nature of the ensemble, an informal audition is required. Instrumentalists should be able to read chord charts or lead sheets. Experience in harmony type of singing is a plus, but not a requirement. Technical teams are also needed for this service. Audio, lighting, video and set up/ tear down teams are a great way to serve if you’re more of a “behind the scenes” type of person. For more information contact Mike Lovelady at 623-6668, Ext 107.
